A recent survey by the FTC confirms that only 2% of identity theft victims reported the theft of their identity was connected to the mail. Even so, we believe 2% is still too much.
• Shred financial documents and paperwork with personal information.
• Don’t give out personal information on the phone, through the mail, or even the Internet unless you know the company you’re dealing with.
• Bills that do not arrive as expected
• Unexpected credit cards or account statements
• Denials of credit for no apparent reason
• Calls or letters about purchases you did not make
